Tom McCall Waterfront Park

Private (1-2 people)

The blooming of the cherry trees at Tom McCall Waterfront Park marks the unofficial beginning of spring in Portland. We'll capture their unique beauty at sunrise or sunset when the light is dramatic and the crowds are gone.

This is a seasonal private photo tour typically offered the end of March/beginning of April.

What You'll Learn:

This photo tour does not deep dive into basic camera settings. If you are interested in learning camera basics, F-Stops and Shutter Speeds 101 is for you. However, we will discuss the exposure triangle (aperture, shutter speed and ISO) and how to apply it when shooting landscapes and details at sunrise/sunset.

If you are not already shooting in manual mode, I will show you how to make the transition easy. We'll cover how to expose for the highlights in your scene in order to capture dramatic light. I review center point focusing, metering and white balance. We review how lighting direction and quality can transform your image.

Composition, perspective and what is "good light" are discussed. We practice a variety of techniques for shooting creative flower photography.

At the end of the photo tour, you will be invited to join Portland Photo Tour Forum. This is a Facebook group open only to those who have participated in a Portland Photo Tour and are interested in learning, inspiring and having fun with photography. Tag me and I will give you feedback on your images!
